Students are working on:
a) recognizing and identifying geometric and non-geometric properties;
b) recognizing different polygons through their geometric features (number of sides and corners);
POLYGON ASSESSMENT (ANSWERS)
c) recognizing the relationships between different shapes, and using this knowledge to solve math problems.
Ex. (problem taken from an EQAO test)
The shape below has been made using pattern blocks.

POLYGON ASSESSMENT (ANSWERS)
c) recognizing the relationships between different shapes, and using this knowledge to solve math problems.
Ex. (problem taken from an EQAO test)
The shape below has been made using pattern blocks.
Darius says. "I can cover this shape using 12 green triangles."
Adams says: "I can cover the same shape with 4 different pattern blocks that are all different."
Show how Adam can cover the shape with 4 different pattern blocks.
Describe the relationship between Adam's pattern blocks and the green triangles.
EXAMPLE OF A LEVEL 4 (A+ to A-) ANSWER:
Adams says: "I can cover the same shape with 4 different pattern blocks that are all different."
Show how Adam can cover the shape with 4 different pattern blocks.
Describe the relationship between Adam's pattern blocks and the green triangles.
EXAMPLE OF A LEVEL 4 (A+ to A-) ANSWER:
The triangles are small and can fit into the other pattern block shapes numerous times. The triangle fits into the hexagon 6 times, it fits into the rhombus 2 times, and, fits into the trapezoid 3 times.
6 + 2 + 3 + 1 (the one triangle I used for the fish's face) = 12 triangles in total.
d) exploring solid figures and determining what faces make up their nets.
6 + 2 + 3 + 1 (the one triangle I used for the fish's face) = 12 triangles in total.
d) exploring solid figures and determining what faces make up their nets.
Ex. A cube's net is composed of 6 squares.
